This is a graphic novel told from the point of view of two sloths. This book is not set any particular place, but sloths are indigenous to Costa Rica and this is a Monarch 2022 book, so it worked well for our school. Students k-5 all loved it. It is a series, so that was extra excitement as well.
For an activity, they can make their own short graphic novel or even just a 3-5 cell comic, using what they've learned about comic structure from the read-aloud. (I focused big on what the different type of bubbles meant- speaking, thinking, and singing.) Or there are hundreds of free, cute sloth coloring pages online.
Your local library probably has non-fiction picture books about sloths as well. A Little Book of Sloth by Lucy Cooke might be an especially good one. It was too long for a read-aloud, though.
