I used Vamonos a Antigua with classes ranging from k-5 because I like how it introduces my students to landmarks and places that many of them have never heard of. It also sparked a lot of research and investigation into the places mentioned in the book.
We also used the website https://thetruesize.com to start to compare the sizes of countries and discussed some basics of why countries can seem smaller or larger because of flattening for drawing maps.
At my high school, I linked students to information about the differences between the Mercator map vs the Peters Projection.
